The Garden Angel Tea Room, Blandon, PA

Visited: September, 2004.  Reviewed: September, 2004.
Meal: Afternoon tea. Type of tea: Teabags. Served: In a teapot.
Tea: Poor.  Food: Fair.  Service: Fair.  Appearance: Good.
Comments:
After traveling ninety minutes to the tea room, my two friends and I were very disappointed. The building and grounds were lovely, the parking lot odd and confusing, the "hot tea" was lukewarm, the "iced tea" was warm, served with no ice in the glass. Tea was made with one teabag (paper tag still attached) tossed in a pot of lukewarm water. A lot of the china was chipped and cracked and the metallic decorative trim on the flatware was peeling off. The scone was cold and the tea sandwiches and desserts were just so-so. The service was adequate but could have been a bit friendlier, especially since we did not make any of the above complaints while at the tea room as we were trying our best to have a pleasant afternoon.

Although the atmosphere was appealing, the tea was not. Iced tea was served without ice and it seems to be watered down without much flavor. Service seems slow and the unlimited desserts were average.

I have been visiting The Garden Angel since its opening and am always very impressed. Whenever I need to enjoy life's elegance I know where to turn with a few girlfriends! The lunch is very worthwhile for the price. There is always plenty of food to enjoy. The tea sandwiches are a favorite of mine, although the crab quiche is fabulous as well. The service is a bit slow but I expect it, so it doesn't bother me anymore. My 21st birthday tea was held there and it was the best girl party I ever had. I have also been there for high [sic] tea. There are usually less people there for high [sic] tea, so I like to take friends that I haven't seen in a while so we can catch up without interruptions!

My sister and I visited the Garden Angel on January 11, 2003. We found the food, ambiance, and service excellent. I fail to see how anyone could feel that all was not perfectly wonderful. I must say, I would have preferred my tea to be hotter. That is the only thing I would change. The serving girls were wonderful. Sandwiches were wonderful.

I got the full tea. the food wasn't very good. i had a piece of plastic in my tea sandwich. the waitress was very loud not very graceful for a tearoom waitress. The desserts you could tell were box mixes and bought icing. the teapots were cracked and glued together. i was disappointed in the whole visit.

A beautiful Victorian tea room serving lunch and tea at one price with the menu specials changing to suit the season. Lunch includes choice of beverage, scones, soup, choice of entree, and as many of the desserts as your sweet tooth can take. Everything is prepared fresh and on the premises. The carrot soup is a must! A wonderful place to have bridal showers. They are also operating a well-rated bed and breakfast.

I love Grandma's Tea Shop. I use it like a little home away from home. If I am tired, or want a little chat in the middle of my shopping, I stop in for a restorative pot of tea and a scone. The ladies are always ready to join me, or allow me quiet reflection if that is what I need. On Friday several of my friends stop by at 1:00. We always have a great tea together. We make plans for shopping, lunch or a day trip. The tea shop also has great shopping. I can always find a little something to take home. There are always great antiques as well as a lot of new merchandise to purchase.

To all who enjoy and take time for tea. I can not say enough about how wonderful the tea service was at Over Thé Teacup in Camp Hill, PA. During my recent visit the hostess, Janet Young, was gracious, and a welcoming delight in this very busy world we live in. The tea cakes and sweets that were served were imaginative and hearty, also served was a wonderful strawberry soup which was one of the many extras not expected with a tea. The table was beautifully appointed keeping in character with the quaintness of a small English cottage. Ms. Young has been in business for five years and has extensive experience as a tea and etiquette consultant. A visit to Over Thé Teacup is a definite must for those who take time to visit with friends.

I went to this tea room with one other lady for a special Christmas tea. We were expecting quite a showing as the event cost $30. We were very disappointed in the food and its presentation. Our "meal" began with a round Carr's cracker and some jam and cream cheese on a paper plate. I really was not expecting a paper plate at all. A plate of small finger foods was served. They seemed to me to be the type you get from the freezer section of a warehouse store that sells items in bulk. None were remarkable. Some were even unidentifiable. Dessert was even a bigger disappointment. In a twist of coincidence, we had just had a store-bought cake at an office party. It was okay for a store-bought cake, but I was shocked when it showed up in front of me cut into a tiny slice on a white doily. This was so not worth the money. While the tea was very good, no cream was served with it. No lumps of sugar, either ... just the commercial looking packets. One perk of the tea was going on a trolley ride in a bus that looked like a trolley. I don't know if that is what made the tea so expensive or not, but that was definitely no fun. It was hot and steamy in there and lasted way too long. I was practically sick by the time I got back to the tea room. From the grumpiness of others, I perceived this to be a common ailment. The lady owner was very, very nice, but the food was terrible. I do not plan to go back and I've shared this info with my friends.

Attention to detail is obvious as you enjoy afternoon tea in this cozy cottage. We were seated in the front room (there are several little rooms) which featured four tables with white high backed chairs. The tables were covered with cloth and lace toppers. The place setting had a teacup with a little hankie tucked in the handle to be used as your napkin. Clever. The menu consisted of a small dish of spinach greens, strawberries, and creamy poppy seed dressing. Homemade lemonade with a sugar frosted rim complemented the salad. After the salad was completed, a medley of sandwiches arrived on a doily covered pedestaled cake plate. The variety of sandwiches was a sight to see. It included open face lavender chicken on thin baguette slices, open face thinly sliced seasoned cucumber sandwich on party brown bread, open face cheese and carrot mixed with mayo on a large brown bread circle topped with an olive slice, and a cornucopia shaped white bread spread with a cream cheese and apricot jam with almond slivers. Each guest was provided two each of the above sandwiches. A pot of perfectly brewed mango and passion fruit tea was served with the sandwiches.
A triangular toasted scone was served on individual plates with a small dollop of cream and raisin chutney. Dessert was served on a blue plate topped with a white doily and included an individual round pineapple upside down cake and the tiniest chocolate dipped ice cream cone. Kiwi & Strawberry tea was served with dessert.
Afternoon tea was $14.95 per person plus tax and gratuity. This is an enjoyable tea room that provides a break from the hustle and bustle of daily activities.

This was my second visit to Uniquely Yours Tea Room. The first visit was with my husband. Yes, he loves tea and it was his suggestion to visit for lunch. Harriett made both of us feel welcomed and comfortable. The food was delicious and the service just the right balance between attentive and not hovering. So when I wanted a special going away gift for a friend who is moving to Oklahoma, I thought of tea at Uniquely Yours. Three of us went on a dreary Friday afternoon. The beautiful interior, warm service and delicious food soon had all of us fed in body and spirit. I love the large selection of loose tea in jars so you can smell them and pick out the one you want to have brewed. Sherry 2/8/2008

I wish I could say how much I like this place. Unfortunately the room was very warm, not so great in January, when you have to go back out into the cold. I got a black tea and the water wasn't hot enough (I don't know if they fully boiled it) so it tasted somewhat flat. Sandwiches were okay but tasted like they'd been sitting in the refrigerator for a day or two, flavor a little faded, bread a little soggy, didn't seem freshly made. The staff were very nice, and my companions seemed to be enjoying themselves so much that I didn't want to make a fuss. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things, maybe we got there on a bad day. Next time I'm in the area maybe I'll try again and hope it's better.
Would you go back? Maybe.

I visited this tearoom twice in a week. That's how good it is. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the atmosphere is so relaxing. They have the best tea I've ever tasted, and fortunately, they sell it so I could bring some back home with me to Tennessee. I love this place with its quiet atmosphere and classical music playing in the background. They seem to follow all the rules of tea etiquette and have my respect for this. This was my third trip to this tearoom and each trip has gotten a bit worse. I went this time at the insistence of a friend. The ambiance is nice but it is very crowded, and the service was very very slow even though it was not overly crowded. The scones are very good but the tea sandwiches were a little mushy. The menu is very limited and a little pricey. This will be my last trip to this tearoom as I don't always want to get tea sandwiches for lunch.

The tea at SpecialTeas is fabulous! I have been to this establishment many times and have never been disappointed. My favorite is the Empress of Japan tea which has a citrusy flavor, but friends I have taken there have loved every flavor tried. An enjoyable afternoon was spent here where a nice selection of loose leaf tea is provided. The afternoon tea selection was provided on a three tiered blue and white tray. The tea sandwiches included tuna, egg salad, cucumber and cream cheese, and turkey and jelly. A large assortment of tiny, sweet desserts were also served. Huge, delicious, warm scones (choice of plain or raisin) were served with Devon cream, strawberry jelly and lemon curd -- very good. Individual two-cup teapots are presented on a doily covered pewter tray. Large chunks of natural sugar are provided as sweetener. This was a very nice tea room, busy the day we were there, and reasonably priced. In addition to the two rooms for serving tea, they have a nice gift shop area full of assorted tea related items. This reviewer would definitely recommend a visit here ... and hopes to return some day.

Attended many dessert and afternoon teas here. This time, for a spring dessert tea, the staff each created a favorite family dessert. We had a wonderful assortment of cakes, mousse, and even a truffle. The tea selection was a mix of flavored black teas and decaf teas with a choice of iced tea as well. In the past, themes for dessert tea included a Valentine's Chocolate tea, a Christmas tea, and a Harvest tea. I've enjoyed them all! The staff and owners are extremely friendly and don't mind that we are always the last ones to leave -- we are so comfortable chatting and catching up on life in that setting. Their regular tea menu is just as pleasing as their special dessert nights.

Yesterday our Red Hatters chapter enjoyed the Full Breakfast Tea at The Talking Teacup. Our choices of tea were brewed beautifully and arrived in individual teapots. The breakfast began with a selection of tea breads and fragrant scones, fresh from the oven, served with jam and Devonshire cream. The next course included a frittata, a quiche, and a refreshing fruit salad. The frittata was made with chicken and cheese, and the quiche of the day was an unusual combination of chicken with sweet red peppers. Marvelous! The service was excellent, and fresh tea was offered. We stopped in the gift shop and couldn't resist doll tea sets in a pink willow design, beautiful tea books, and decorative sterling silver teapot jewelry. We had a lovely time, and will certainly be back!

Absolutely loved the tearoom. It is the perfect place for a small gathering of friends for lunch, brunch or “just because.” It is very quaint and comfy. My friend and I had one of the day’s specials: Salad greens mixed with an assortment of fruit, a serving of chicken Waldorf salad, and two slices of cranberry bread (yummy!). We also enjoyed a pot each of the Halloween tea. Will definitely be back – hopefully sooner than later!

Was very disappointed in this tearoom during our first visit. Waitress was new and service was terrible. Tea came out lukewarm and had to ask twice for milk. Tea sandwiches were disappointing and skimpy for what you paid. Scones were good as was the homemade curd but jam was Smuckers served in a restaurant package as was the whipped butter. I expect a better presentation at a tearoom than from the local diner. Plates sat on table for a long time waiting to be cleared. They really need better and more experienced staff.

Simpson House Tea Room is in a renovated historic home in the Village of Eagle, Chester Springs, PA. Four of us meet for lunch, I had the Tea Party, which included a cup of soup, a pot of tea, three tea sandwiches and dessert. The Cream of Broccoli soup was perfct with just a hint of cheddar cheese. The English Evening tea was full flavored and perfect for the day. I selected the Black Forest Strudel for dessert. A perfect lunch. One friend had the quiche, and the two others the Tea Sandwich assortment which are six tea sandwiches. All had the soup. The Simpson House is graced with tall windows and has a light airy feel. The service was attentive but not over bearing. Kathy and Karen operate another tea room which we frequent, Simpson House exceded our expectations. Just a lovely place to meet friends for lunch or tea or Sunday brunch in a historic village. Easy access to PA Turnpike, Rte. 113.

Tea was served with the following:
a) a mini croissant filled with roast beef, mayo, and pickled onions
b) mini cheesecakes
c) mini cakes
d) strawberries
e) cream tarts
f) scones
Everything was delicious except the scones, which were a disappointment as they were stale. Several of the other patrons left theirs untouched but for a bite or two, as did we.
We had Harney & Sons' chamomile tea, which was excellent, but I would have enjoyed a bigger tea selection.

I wanted to give my nieces a lovely Christmas experience while they were home for the holidays. They joined my sister and me for tea at The Olde Cloverleaf Village. The food was delicious and certainly adequate. We were filled to the gills when we left. The lovely Victorian room was festive in its holiday greens. A lady was providing holiday tunes on her flute as we were served our treats. My nieces and sister were delighted with our afternoon tea
... I was too. It looked so inviting and we found every bite delectable. We hope to go again soon. We wish it could be more often than just once a month.

A delightful tea shop on Lancaster Pike in Devon, PA, western suburbs of Philadelphia, on the Main Line. Serves wonderful teas, and tea sandwiches, and English specialties, including scones with lemon curd and clotted cream -- the best! Decor is darling and tea items -- pots, bags, cozies, and special items from England -- are for sale. Have visited this tiny tea room many times and have purchased their tea sandwiches for parties at my home.

While we fully enjoyed the food we felt that being constantly interrupted so that the owner could tell us how everything was home made by her was tacky. I also took offense to the loud statement made to another group "Unlike other tea rooms I make everything from scratch" I have probably been to each tea room within a 150 mile radius and have found that 98% of the tea rooms make their food from scratch. The owner also made some other not so nice remarks when referring to the other tea rooms in the area. Sorry as a person taking tea in this tea room, I do not like to hear this kind of comments.

A very frilly/lacy Victorian atmosphere. Excellent food, beautiful presentation. More food than one could possibly eat! A bit pricey, but worth it. We had to wait 20 minutes to pay our check at the register, and they weren't very nice about it. The gift shop selections are very limited and disappointing. We drove 2 hours to get there, and were not sorry! All in all, a very pleasant experience.

The attention to detail in the presentation of the food is excellent. The full afternoon tea includes soup, scone with Devonshire cream, muffin, four tea sandwiches, and four desserts for $12. You have your choice of tea, coffee, or chilled beverage. Individual teapots are brought to the table with hot water and teabags are on the table to choose from. The overall ambiance and service is excellent. The tea menu changes monthly with a different theme. They also serve Petite Afternoon Tea (four sandwiches, bowl of homemade soup, and a pot of tea), Dessert Tea (four assorted desserts and pot of tea), soup, warm scones, quiche of the day, or a Mediterranean pasta salad. The Mansion also offers off-street parking. This is a definite return trip!

This Afternoon Tea/Special 'Secret' Birthday Gift to my Mother was a most pleasant and relaxing "Ladies Day!" We all came to The Eternity Tea Room in a van my Father made ready for the trip, just so all the ladies could ride together in comfort and companionship. The drive to The Eternity Tea Room was so breathtaking and there were magnificent views of the mountains as we ventured closer toward The Eternity Tea Room. This is something all six of us have dreamed of doing in our lifetime - attending a tea, and now our dreams have been realized! How lovely to enjoy it with those we hold most dear to our hearts, our family. We had my Mother, two dear Aunts, my Mother's Best Friend, who my sister and I call our "Aunt", and Mom's two daughters - my sister and I. We enjoyed wearing hats, chatting, drinking tea, laughing and listening to the Teacup story read by my Aunt which was found at our table. The food was cheesy, savory, creamy and soothing, sweet and fresh, and warming to the palate, tasty and delightful (I think the word would be scrummy (scrumptious and yummy all together!), and beautifully presented! The Eternity Tea Room smelled heavenly! While we sat for hours tasting each other's freshly brewed pots of tea, and dining on the beautiful presentation of food before us. In the background, while we visiting and shared in each other’s company, The Eternity Tea Room was filled with the most charming harp music playing to delight our ears. The hostess was so welcoming, we felt like family. More could be said, but you must come and see, taste and enjoy it for yourself. Please come, sit a while - and you will leave The Eternity Tea Room feeling as we did - alive with joy and peace and so full-filled! We will come back again soon to enjoy The Eternity Tea Room!

This is our third tea at the Cross and Bluebird Tea and Gift Shops. The Historic Tate Farm is a homey, peaceful, and welcoming setting to both visit and enjoy an afternoon tea. Laurie and Roger Harding make each guest feel welcome, as well as create a memorable and enjoyable experience whether it’s your first or fifth visit. Every tea menu is uniquely different filled with savory soups, sandwiches, scones, and desserts. Don’t forget to visit the gift shop and new greenhouse where you will find many unique gifts for your home and garden. See you soon!

Began the Luncheon [sic] with homemade zuchini-dill soup, followed by an array of 3 different, yet complimentary tea sandwiches. The chicken salad was the best I ever tasted! Scones were served right from the oven with an abundance of lemon curd, creme and homemade pineapple/rhubarb jam. The tea was served hot and refilled by our hosts several times throughout our meal. The dessert tray was just spectacular! Especially the hand dipped strawberries. Everything...was simply divine! Great atmosphere and lovely hosts! Spent three "pampered" hours in a historic setting. A perfect afternoon!

The Gilbertsville Tearoom, Gilbertsville, PA

Visited: March, 2008.  Meal: A good cuppa.  Type of tea served: Iced tea.  Served: Chilled in a glass.
Tea: Excellent.  Food: Excellent.  Service: Excellent.  Appearance: Excellent.
Comments:
During one of the colder months in February, I ventured out into the chilly winter. I visited the tearoom on a saturday early afternoon and chose the iced tea. Not being a warm tea drinker (sensitive teeth), it was just what the doctor ordered. Patty was her cheerful self and made my visit enjoyable. The scones were fabulous. Never disappointed. Am looking forward to more iced tea after summer solstice.
